Legal Gaurdian

Never in a million years would you think I would be the legal guardian of anyone. Never in a million years would you think I would be the legal guardian of someone older then me.

My mother went for surgery a few weeks ago, and long story short because of many different excuses they had to put it off for a week. When they finally did put the stints in (she has some blood clots in veins in her brain), every thing went fine. This was the third time she had it done. After the procedure, she started to feel dizzy and threw up. She had a very severe stroke. There was a lot of bleeding in her brain. As of Friday night, they didn't know if she was going to live. I've been back and forth to DC all weekend. As of Sunday night, they think she will live. They aren't sure, but that is what they think. She was breathing on her own for a little while, they've been back and forth between putting her on the respirator. On Monday, she could respond to simple commands. If you ask her to squeeze your hand, she could do that or she could put up two fingers. Right now, her squeezing my hand is about the happiest thing I have ever felt. I saw her Tuesday. I told her about the new purple dress I was wearing. She opened an eye a little and looked.

The recovery process is going to be very long, and they aren't sure what functions she will regain. I am hoping for the best, my mom has always been a fighter. Right now I'm in the process of becoming her legal guardian, so I can do things on her behalf and get the bills paid. It's been putting a lot of stress on me to be honest, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I graduated college in 2007, but I feel like this past weekend I finally became an adult. I would give anything to feel like a child right now.

While things are beginning to look up, I am still worried. There is still a spot in her brain that needs some work. They can't do anymore with stinting or angioplasties. I don't know what they are going to do about that, if they can fix it at all. I am so afraid of losing my mother.

But what to write about?

I signed up for this mainly because I wanted a place to write whatever I was feeling... and now that I have it situated just the way I want it (for the time being), I have no idea what to write. I could write my opinion on politics or the economy, but why not start off with something easier and more familiar?

Like my cat.

I have had Evan for over seven years now. I love him as if he were my own child. I know some people might think that's crazy, but I don't really care. You can't help who you love and how you love them! Recently, Evan has been sick. He had been a little listless, and he had been eating less. This was when I started to get scared. What if something was wrong with my baby? What would I do if it was too late? I debated for a while about taking him to the vet. If something was really wrong, could I handle it? In the end, I did take him (and he cried the whole way there). Turns out he had an infection that was causing his small intestine to become inflamed. Fortunately, they caught it in enough time before it became serious.

He still doesn't really eat. Today I forced him to and I know he hated it. I can tell that he is getting better, which is all that matters. Cats usually only live about 10-12 years, which means Evan's life is probably half over. I have tried convinced myself that he will live forever, or if he doesn't I will gather up the money to have him cloned.

I'm serious, if I can come up with $50,000 I will do it. Some woman in Tennessee had her dogs cloned.

But back to Evan. If you've never had a pet, maybe you don't know what it is like to love one so much. Give it a try. Animals can be the most non judgemental living things you will ever meet. They will love you even after you've done something awful. In their eyes, you are a God. Even when I was away at college, Evan would coming running to the phone when he heard my voice on it. His devotion to me has been undying, even after I shoved food down his throat and wouldn't let him go outside.

In cat years, Evan is about 46. That may be older then me, but he will always be my baby.
